Digital Storytelling

About a week ago I lead the final session for my Chicago Foundation for Education Study Group, "The Web 2.0 Classroom". Our final topic was digital storytelling. Digital Storytelling projects can range from incredibly simplistic to overly extensive. Depends on the purpose, depends on the teacher. The following are exerpts from the resources I provided to my group. You can see the complete list of resources I presented to them at .

What is Digital Storytelling?

Using computer-based multimedia tools to tell a story

Multimedia features:

· Narration (recorded audio)

· Sound

· Still images (sometimes video)

· Text

· Short (most between 2-5 minutes long)

Possible Topics:

· Personal narrative (relationships, memorials, adventures, accomplishments, special places, hobbies, profession, recovery, love stories, discovery)

· PSA

· Point of View of an object

· Recall of historical events

· Book Trailer

How to Start:

1.(a)a topic you are already exploring (b) brainstorm- give them ideas- *there should be a theme

Ex: the things they carried…the things you carry

Ex: story told from the p.o.v. of an object

2. write about it

3. storyboard it

4. find resources for it

5. write your script

6. record your script

7. put it all together

8. show it off!
